Thank Talos for the Creation Kit and modders. Bethesda put no thought at all into the UI design, as vanilla menus are bloody worthless. That's an awesome mod, will definitely be trying this out tonight. Huh, I just did some googling for comparison screens between vanilla textures and Bethesda's official HR texture packs, and the difference is pretty subtle. I extrapolated what I could from the file descriptions and just extracted them to the Skyrim folder, enabling the. There actually weren't any instructions included with the optimized high-res texture packs they're not the actual mod, and were included as miscellaneous files section. Golldir was appreciative of my efforts, despite my having ransacked his family's treasures. I wound up simply reloading the game each time and was able to run through the bloody thing in its entirety some 7-8 crashes later. BOSS told me everything was OK outside of the Dirty Edits in Update.esm, unless there's some other feature I'm supposed to be looking at - I'm using the command prompt version, not the version with a GUI, and all I do is run the shortcut and press 0 for Skyrim, which opens up a webpage-like info screen in my browser with a left-side menu.Īnyhow, the crashes appeared to be truly random in a sense that they weren't reliably replicated in one instance it would be looting a chest, in another it might be performing a sneak attack on a dormant Draugr, and in yet another I could just be exploring, but I never experienced consecutive crashes performing the same action.

I've run SkyrimLauncher to enable/disable mods in hopes of alleviating the CTDs to no avail. This results in the following quality of shots:

I've highlighted the most significant ones that I think are the most visually crucial: Okay, here's the mods I am using, all through Nexus mod manager (much easier to use) through SKSE loader. And Lime, your screens are very much appreciated. I don't even know what's safe to remove at this point, it's so easy to lose track! I'll experiment with BOSS, although I'm not sure if I've already passed the point of no return after having manually installed so much stuff.

Might look into a video card upgrade as well, since my trusty GTX 460 begins to show its age when either SSAO or DOF are enabled they make the game look that much better. The work that modders have done is just fantastic, and I plan on checking out more custom armors and weapons after I play through the story with my sneaky arrow-mage knight (I don't know if this build is plausible, but damned if I'm not going to try). I've spent way more time in the past few days researching and playing with mods than I have actually progressing in the game. Climates looks great if only for the weather/sky enhancements, so I'll definitely keep that in mind as well. Not sure if I need to check out the lanterns/ambiance mods as I haven't yet done any world traveling or dungeon crawling, but I'll keep them bookmarked for the future. I'm excited for 4.0, which looks to include some terrific features.

I went with freddy's recommendation because I saw his post first, and am liking the results so far with RL 3.5 using the brighter rooms + dungeons configuration. Thank you freddy and Lime, you're both princes.
